Barbara Klimek, MSW Coordinator and clinical associate professor in the School of Social Work, has been appointed as a Senior Sustainability Scientist with the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability. Klimek’s research focuses on issues of cultural diversity, particularly refugees and immigrants, as well as international social work. Klimek says this appointment provides the potential for additional support and collaboration for the Ethnic Community-Based Organization grant she has been working on for two years. She is working in Maricopa and Pima Counties to provide technical assistance to ECBOs and help design, develop and deliver culturally and linguistically competent orientations to refugees. It will also open opportunities for collaborative research related to sustainability and social entrepreneurship, specifically related to refugee communities in Arizona.
